Picture this...
A vital Public Hearing on the Budget and Tax Rate was held at 5:30 PM, crafted to give YOU—our community—a chance to influence decisions that directly affect your life. It was the only item on the agenda, yet the meeting lasted just three minutes. Why? Because no one from our community showed up.
I hear it time and again from citizens and employees alike:
“Commissioner Drewry, why doesn’t the Commissioners Court hold evening meetings for these critical issues so more people can attend?”
It’s a fair question, and I’m fighting for change. But the argument against evening meetings, as the Judge points out, is that they’re a “waste of time” when no one shows, costing overtime for bailiffs and staff. Right now, that argument holds weight—but it doesn’t have to. You have the power to flip the script.
I’m pushing for occasional evening meetings to make it easier for working families, students, and busy citizens to engage with your government. But I can’t win this fight alone. I need you to show up. The next time an evening Public Hearing is scheduled, be there. Fill those seats, share your ideas, and spark the conversations that prove our community cares. Together, we can make evening meetings a reality and show that our government belongs to us.

County Commissioners have a duty to:
Protect our citizens’ natural rights against rogue actions of the state or federal government;
Prioritize obtaining “consent of the governed” through transparency and citizen participation;
Ensure every election is secure and the results for every vote cast in every race or ballot initiative can be verified;
Ethically manage county business;
Uphold the rule of law at all times;
Prioritize public safety through effective law enforcement and the court systems;
Represent the people of our precincts over special interests;
Properly maintain county infrastructure (roads, bridges, drainage, buildings, vehicles, equipment, county data, and human resources);
Utilize tax revenue effectively and efficiently, ensuring the highest quality for the best price;
Set a tax rate with the burden of the taxpayer at the forefront of our minds.
